Walk into Spain: La Línea#
The easiest “day trip” barely counts as one: walk across the border into La Línea de la Concepción for tapas, a big Spanish beach and a change of scene — about fifteen minutes on foot from the frontier. It’s the perfect low-effort half-day, and a reminder of how unusual Gibraltar’s position is.
Tarifa & Bolonia#
An hour west along the coast, Tarifa is Europe’s wind- and kite-surf capital, a whitewashed old town at the very tip of the continent, and the ferry port for Morocco. Nearby Bolonia has a wild, dune-backed beach and the remarkably complete Roman town of Baelo Claudia right behind it.
Ronda#
Inland and up, Ronda is one of Andalusia’s show-stoppers — a town split in two by the El Tajo gorge and stitched back together by the 18th-century Puente Nuevo bridge. It’s about ninety minutes’ drive and makes a full, rewarding day.
Morocco in a day: Tangier#
