Day three is the one people don’t plan for — and then rave about. Gibraltar is a peninsula, so the sea is never far, and after two days of Rock and history a slower day on the water is the perfect close. Dolphins in the morning, a beach after lunch, and sunset over the marina you’re staying on.
Morning: a dolphin-watching trip#
The Bay of Gibraltar has resident pods of dolphins — common, striped and bottlenose — and the boats leave right from Marina Bay and Ocean Village, a few minutes from the apartment. Trips run roughly an hour to ninety minutes and operate year-round because the dolphins live here; you’re not waiting on a migration.
Afternoon: pick a beach#
Gibraltar’s beaches split neatly by coast: soft sand and sun on the east side, rocky lido-style swimming on the west. All are a short taxi or bus hop from Marina Bay.

Late afternoon: Europa Point#
For a sense of just how far south you are, head to Europa Point at the Rock’s southern tip — a lighthouse, the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque, and, on a clear day, the mountains of Morocco across the Strait. It’s a striking, breezy spot to watch the shipping funnel through the world’s busiest strait.
Evening: sunset on the marina#
End where you started. The Marina Bay and Ocean Village boardwalk faces west, so the sunset drinks write themselves — a table at Bianca’s, a cocktail on the Sunborn, or a pint at The Hendrix.
